Fr. Don's Daily Reflection - December 24, 2024

Psalm 62: “In you alone is my soul at rest. My help comes from You.”

Christmas Eve, a day to concentrate on receiving into our lives once again the Son of God made flesh.

But, of course, it's rarely a day of quiet for most of us. Instead it often is filled with rushing around making sure all the gifts are wrapped, making last-minute preparations for a gathering, cooking and shopping, decorating the tree, the house. But Zechariah, speaking of the coming of the Messiah in Luke says: “He, the Dayspring, shall visit us in his mercy to shine on those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.”

Commercialism and our rushing around may obscure this, unfortunately, but it would be wonderful if we could take a few minutes today to look at the ultimate reason for this feast. Possibly, reading this can at least turn us to these thoughts for a few moments. We believe that Christmas marks the entry into human life in a very particular way of him who is the light that really drives away the dark shadow cast over life by death. Further, his teaching can really lead to peace. Light of the world and prince of peace we call him.

Psalm 27: “I believe I shall see the Lord’s goodness / in the land of the living.

Wait for the Lord; be strong; / be stouthearted, and wait for the Lord!”
