Revitalizing the Saint John's Abbey Church – Victoria Young

“If we don’t work very hard right now to protect the legacy of this building, we’re doing a disservice to our friends 50 or 100 years down the road. Because this place – this whole site – is something that architectural pilgrims come to, just like religious pilgrims.”

So says Victoria Young, a professor of modern architectural history and the chair of the art history department at the University of St. Thomas. Young, who was recently named president of the Society of Architectural Historians, has done a lot of research on the Abbey Church and its history. In fact, she wrote a book about it – 2014’s “Saint John’s Abbey Church: Marcel Breuer and the Creation of a Modern Sacred Space.” Join her as she discusses the importance of the church and the necessity of revitalizing the landmark structure for future generations.
